In Matthew 16:18 Jesus says, "on this rock I will build My church." The church, in the proper sense, is people - people who posses a saving faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. The word "church" (ekkleœsia in Greek) means "an assembly of people." (Click here for the Leadership of the Congregation)
The public ministry is a divine arrangement from the beginning of the church (Acts 20:28). God arranged for the priesthood and prescribed the manner of the selection of the priests He also called and sent the prophets (Eph 4:11-12). They did not decide to prophesy on their own authority. They were selected and commissioned by God, and in some cases they assumed "the burden" with much reluctance (Exodus 3:10-11) God continues to work through His Church to choose, call, and send. A person is in “public ministry” when formally assigned to labor in the work of the church on behalf of those in the church who are not in public ministry. The congregation calls and authorizes these individuals to function publicly on their behalf.
| Called Staff: The Called staff are the synodically trained professionals who are Called by the congregation to serve in the public ministry. (ergo: the Pastor, the DCE (Director of Christian Education)) Church leaders: Those who are involved in the strategic planning of ministry (For example: members of the Church Council, members of ministry boards, and members-at-large) Ministry Manager: A church volunteer who is responsible for a specific area of ministry or specific ministry event. (For Example: Sunday School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School directors, education and ministry event leaders, Christ Cares leaders) Ministry Worker: The term “worker” refers to any volunteers or paid employees teaching and/or working with children, youth, or adults. (For Example: Bible class teachers, Vacation Bible School volunteers, nursery helpers) | |||||||||
